Gutter Fire 4/29/06 - At 1:25 a.m. units were dispatched to the Interchange Bank on the corner of Jefferson Ave. and Kinderkamack Road for a fire on the roof. Fire crews discovered a small fire in the gutter and promptly extinguished it. It was determined that a rain gutter ice melting unit malfunctioned causing dry pine needles in the gutter to ignite. Damage was confined to the gutter and the fascia board. Vacant strip mall fire in emerson 4/20/06 - At 8:00 p.m. the WFD responded to Emerson for a working fire in the Pascack Valley Shopping Center on Kinderkamack Road. Engine 16, Engine 12, and 14 Truck arrived on scene and crews immediately went to work. The fire was located in a vacant food market where firefighters made an aggressive attack. Crews were able to halt the spread of fire into the adjoining stores. Westwood units returned approximately three hours later. (Photos courtesy of Ken & Kate Boschert)
Suspicious Package 4/20/06 - The fire department was requested to stand-by in the central business district for a report of a suspicious package. The Westwood Police Department was notified shortly before 11:00 a.m. of a suspicious bag found at a bus stop located on Broadway. The Bergen County Bomb Squad responded to investigate the bag. Downtown Westwood was shutdown until approximately 12:30 p.m. when the Bergen County Police determined that the bag did not contain an explosive device and that the area was safe. Fire units were released and returned to headquarters. Car Fire at Trader Joe's 4/8/06 - Units responded to the parking lot of Trader Joe's on Irvington Street for a car fire. Engine 16 arrived and stretched a line to extinguish a fire in the engine compartment of a Chevy Blazer. To view more pictures go to the Media section.
