WESTWOOD -- Investigators are seeking to determine the cause of
an early-morning blaze that gutted the living room and caused heavy
smoke damage throughout a home on Lester Avenue.
A neighbor spotted the fire at 13 Lester Ave. about 12:45 a.m. and
called authorities. No one was inside at the time, said Westwood police
Lt. Brad Buschow.
About 40 volunteer firefighters put out the flames. Two were later
treated for cuts they suffered while breaking windows for ventilation.
The injuries were not serious, said Fire Chief Fred Schmidt.
Arson investigators from the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office were
called to the scene, but none could be reached for comment Friday.
Schmidt said the fire was considered suspicious because it apparently
began when no one was home.
