thermal imaging camera put to use in iraq

7/30/07 - The Bullard thermal imaging camera (TIC) that was recently donated and shipped to Iraq by the WFD and AAA Emergency Supply has been put to good use. (See article from 5/25/07, WFD Supports Our Troops) Corporal Hrbek has contacted us and informed us of the camera's effectiveness. "
The first day we received the camera, we conducted a "hit" on an insurgent's house in the middle of the night. Our night vision goggles were fogged up from the sweat beating off our faces and we could not see out of them. With the help of the thermal imaging camera we located the insurgent on the roof of the house. We are extremely thankful for AAA's and the Westwood Fire Department's generous and most useful donation." Along with locating insurgents, the camera is also used to locate Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) which are buried in the roads. Hrbek is due to return home in the beginning of September.
