WESTWOOD -- An 83-year-old man suffered severe burns over 80 percent of
his body Monday morning when his clothes caught fire while he was
cooking at a stove, authorities said.
A medical helicopter took Frank Kreutzig to St. Barnabas Medical Center
in Livingston, where he was in critical condition Monday afternoon.
Kreutzig was cooking in his home on Mill Street when his sweater caught
fire shortly after 11 a.m., said Detective Lt. Larry Schwarz.
A housekeeper who was upstairs ran to the kitchen and helped extinguish
the flames, which burned part of a carpet and part of a wall, Schwarz
said.
Fire Chief James Voorhis said there was no structural damage to the
house. An investigation determined that the fire was accidental, said
Bergen County Prosecutor William Schmidt.
