October 2006 WFD RESPONDS TO IRON HORSE RESTAURANT
10/17/06 - Units were requested to respond to the Iron Horse Restaurant on Washington Avenue for a report of an unknown burning odor. Using thermal imaging cameras, crews discovered an abnormal amount of heat radiating from behind a wall in the bar area. Firefighters determined that an electrical outlet had shorted out and was overheating. Crews disconnected the outlet and cut a hole in the wall to verify that there was no fire in the adjacent wall spaces. AND THE WINNER IS.....
10/15/06 - This year's Westwood Fire Department Harley-Davidson Raffle winner is Rich Skinner from Washington Township. Congratulations Rich! The WFD would like to thank everyone who contributed to the raffle for making it a success! Below Rich poses with his new ride.
Annual Inspection and Service Awards Dinner
10/14/06 – On Saturday night the Westwood Volunteer Fire Department held its Annual Inspection and Service Awards Dinner at Westwood Fire Headquarters. Many special guests were in attendance, including the Mayor and Council, and officers from surrounding emergency organizations. Service awards were presented by Chief Domville and Mayor Wanner. Jeremy Jenkins received recognition for 5 years of service, Lieutenant Robert Paller for 15 years of service, and Michael Griffin for 20 years of service. This year three members received their WFD Ring which is presented to members who have served for 25 years. The recipients were Joseph Concato, William Quinn, and Thomas Voorhis. Ex-Chief Frederick Schmidt and William Phayre both were honored for 30 years of service and Ex-Chief Edmund Keller was recognized for 55 years. Shawn Stewart and James Wexler were both presented with their NJSFA Exemption and the Firefighter of the year award went to James Mawdsley. A very special award was presented to the family of Ex-Chief Victor Butterfield Jr. Before Vic passed this year he reached a milestone that no other Westwood Firefighter has ever accomplished. With 65 years of service, he was the longest serving active member in the history of the Westwood Fire Department. Along with his 65 Year Service Award, members of Vic’s family were each presented with a framed department photo of him. Special thanks to Rich Wolfson for the slideshow presentation and photographing the event. WFD Color Guard Chief John Domville
