September 2006 kitchen fire promptly extinguished
9/22/06 - The WFD was dispatched at 15:39 hours to a kitchen fire in a private residence. First arriving fire officers were met with a heavy smoke condition inside the residence. Prior to the arrival of the fire department, Westwood Police officers extinguished the fire. The fire was a result of unattended cooking in a pan on a stove top. When discovered by the homeowner, the pan was removed to the sink where decorative materials and a portion of the cabinet became involved in fire. Fire crews checked for any extension of the fire before returning to headquarters.

9/20/06 - At 14:48 hours, shortly after returning from an extrication call, units were called to respond to a car fire at the intersection of Old Hook Road and Kinderkamack Road. Engine 16 responded and crews found a small fire in the engine compartment and extinguished it. vehicle accident on old hook road
9/20/06 - At 13:48 hours the WFD was requested to respond to a motor vehicle crash with one victim trapped. Fire crews removed the driver's side door to allow medic crews to safely remove the victim. The victim was transported to a local medical facility. mvc with persons trapped
9/15/06 - Units were dispatched at 08:38 hours to the scene of a motor vehicle crash with reports of persons trapped. The accident occurred at the intersection Old Hook Road and Tillman and involved three vehicles. Firefighters removed both the driver and passenger doors with hydraulic tools to facilitate the removal of two victims. Medic crews stabilized the victims and transported them to a local medical facility. The Emerson Fire Department and River Vale Ambulance Corps. also responded. acid spill in business district
9/7/06 - The WFD was dispatched to the corner of Westwood Ave. and Broadway at 08:49 hours to a report of an unknown type of liquid substance spilled in the roadway creating a vapor cloud. The Bergen County HazMat Unit was requested to respond to the scene. HazMat crews identified the material as a type of acid which was quickly neutralized and cleaned-up. Fire crews assisted HazMat crews with decontamination and clean-up.
